AOL offers 2 discount plans for their customers who don't use their service very much. One of them is worthless. The chart below shows why.

Note: These are prices on their website on July 1,2003.

Standard Unlimited Plan:$23.90 per month standard plan providing access to AOL and the Internet, without hourly fees. This is the default pricing plan for AOL members.
Use this plan if you normally use more than 10 hours each month

Light Usage Plan:$4.95 per month light usage plan providing 3 hours of AOL, including the Internet, with additional time priced at just $2.50 per hour.
Use this plan if you normally use less than 10 hours each month

Limited Plan: $9.95 per month limited usage plan providing 5 hours of AOL, including the Internet, with additional time priced at just $2.95 per hour.
You will NEVER benefit by using this plan!

time usedstandard limited light The table shows how much you would pay each month, for different amounts of usage.

It's clear that if you use less than 10 hours a month the "light" plan is best.

And if you use more than 10 hours a month, the "standard" plan is best.

But there is no time that the "limited" plan is better for you.

I wonder why they would offer this plan.

I would guess that there are more people using the "limited" plan than the "light" plan.

If you'd rather get more for your money, without anyone trying to play tricks on you, and bombarding you with ads the way AOL does, you may want to consider some of the other available Internet Service Providers:
