Let's face it. We all know how to lose weight. We've done it so many times we're all experts. So why are we still FAT? And why do we care?

It all comes down to a simple formula. Calories in, calories out. The more you eat the more you'll weigh. The more you work the less you'll weigh.

Our food is much more calorie-packed these days, and we don't have to work nearly as hard. Our ancestors evolved in times when food was hard to get, and they learned to use every bit of food as efficiently as possible. We're prepared for famine. But we're not prepared for abundance.

Now that we can get in the car and drive to the supermarket to buy a gallon of ice cream, and pay for it with the money we earned sitting at a desk, it's hardly surprising that we're fat. It would be surprising if we were thin.

Alright, then, so we're fat. Now what?

If the diet programs you see advertised everywhere really worked, they'd have put themselves out of business a long time ago. There wouldn't be any more fat people to sell their services to. That certainly hasn't happened.

What do the "experts" say?

The thinner the better.
Yo-yo dieting is terrible.
Fat isn't so bad.
Fat is beautiful.
You can never be too rich or too thin.
It's all a matter of willpower.
Fat people are lazy.
Here, take this pill.
Don't take that pill, it's dangerous!
Here, drink this drink.
Do as I say, not as I do.
Exercise, exercise, exercise!
You're programmed to be this way, don't worry. There's nothing you can do about it.
Give me lots of money and do what I tell you and you'll be beautiful.
Let's just suck out some of that ugly fat.
Walk every day.
Don't eat so much.
You're eating at the wrong time of the day.
Eat more protein.
Eat less protein.
Count calories
Don't count calories
Eat banannas.
Avoid carbohydrates.
Eat more carbohydrates.
Don't eat processed food.
Don't eat meat.
Don't eat anything.
Have your head examined.

Now what? We've heard from the experts, we've given them lots of money. I guess we're not fat anymore. Right?

So maybe we should take a little from each:
Eat a fairly well-balanced diet
Walk once in a while
Don't eat if you're not hungry
Use the stairs, not the elevator
Don't worry so much about it
Smile
