Moments to remember

by Donna O'Gara

Becky's first visit to my house was Thursday morning, early, when she came to pick me up. I had told her that my driveway was narrow, and the trees were low. I also told her we didn't mind if she scraped through the trees a bit, but she should think about it before she pulled in.

She came in, and a few of the branches broke off as she went through. On the way out a few more broke, but we figured all was well until a few minutes later when my husband called on the cell-phone to tell us that we had left a piece of metal on the driveway. He described it, and Becky decided it was a part of the camper she could do without for a few days.

Saturday afternoon, Lynne and I were wandering around Robinson Flat, finding interesting things to tell you about. She took a nice picture, and wanted to show it to me on her camera's display screen. My reading glasses weren't hanging on their string around my neck, weren't tucked in my collar, or clipped to my clipboard ... Several people stood around and watched while I patted myself down, then I asked "does anyone see my glasses anywhere on my person?" After a moment of silence, Lynne asked, "You mean the ones on your nose?" Those were the ones.

Friday night, late. Lynne and I were in her hotel room, working furiously to get some things posted. We were solving problems, beginning to work fairly well together, but it was late, and we still had a lot to do. Becky, Tori, and Heather showed up, with some ice cream for us, chatting about where they had been, wondering how we were doing.

Tori and Becky have both known me for years, and they think of me as an easy-going, laid-back sort of person. They've never seen me working to a deadline. Lynne and I were not the same people they had known before. We barely acknowledged them, and turned back to our computers. After a few attempts at conversation they realised we weren't going to cooperate, so Tori spoon-fed me one bite of ice cream, then they left.

Several hours later, we got the latest installment uploaded to my site, stood up, looked around, noticed the melted ice cream on the counter. One bite each, and we were done for the night.

Saturday night, late. Lynne and I are again posting our latest information. We've figured out how to do it fairly well by now, but there's still a lot of work to do, and we don't finish until about 11PM. I'm exhausted, ready to go to bed. Unfortunately, my bed is in Becky's camper, at the fairgrounds. My clean clothes, toothbrush, and other essentials are in Tori's room.(where I had showered that morning while she wrote her stories on my computer) She's at the fairgrounds too, with her key. Lynne offered to take me to the fairgrounds to find them, but I figured that would not be a terribly good idea. I slept amazingly well on the floor in her hotel room.

Lynne had to use the hotel phone lines and her calling card to put all this stuff here for you. I don't know how much it will come to, but I'm expecting it to be big. If you'd like to help, visit one of my sponsors when you're finished looking around here. I get a few cents for everyone who visits, and I'll share the proceeds with Lynne. DON'T just click the link and not visit the sponsor, though, please. Just visit the ones that really look interesting to you.
