I was walking down the "main drag" looking at the horses and trucks and trailers when the neatest colored horse came walking towards me. This off-whiteish/yellowish/greyish color. I almost stopped the woman to ask what it was called when I saw another one, and then another one. Each with varying degrees of the shade. The underlying coat of all the horses seemed to be grey/white. Well, duh, what color is the dirt you're walking in Tori! The dust they're rolling in is turning them this wonderful shade. Too bad they won't stay that way. I liked it.
Who are Nick and Noreen Mansfield? I have yet to find anyone who can tell me. Do any of you know? The vet-in takes place in the Nick and Noreen Mansfield Memorial Arena. Quite an unusual arena too. No fencing, and there are three big trees inside! Not like any arena I've ever been in before. The large, semi-flat circle is ringed with huge granite boulders instead of a fence. Very appropriate considering where we were.
I ran into Vickie Testa's crew. Rachelle Ritchie, Megan MacKay and her mom Kim. They were searching for the head of their crew, Nora Gerhardt. Megan is an old pro at crewing Tevis. She crewed for the team that came out from Virginia last year. I think mom, Kim, is a little too horse shy for comfort, but I said there's nothing horsey about hauling water around.
Vickie is a local rider and the crew is coming from Sacramento, so they should have an easy time of it. Best of luck to them.
